If not, here are some scriptures for your enjoyment. According to God and The Rock, you Christian women need to ‘Know your role, and shut your mouth!’
1 Tim 2:8-11 women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
You can be a Sex Slave too!
28: If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29: Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. Deuteronomy 22:28-29
"When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property." Exodus 21:20-21 NAB
Wonderful isn't it?

It is because of these and other verses that I cannot read the Bible as the literal truth from God.
Flawed men wrote the Bible. Does that mean we cannot gain something from it? For me, no. I find that while there are many verses I find shocking, rigid and hateful, there are many others that bring me closer to God the Father.
So as a Christian, I am always happy when people share these types of verses. Believing in God does NOT have to mean believing the Bible is the literal word of God. Believing in God means surrendering to Him, and doing His will, which for me means loving God with all my heart, and my neighbor as myself.

Yes, I've read the Bible cover-to-cover more than once.
It states to learn in silence and subjection. How else would you learn? If someone is trying to teach you would you be talking all the time? And what is wrong with honoring the person who is teaching you?
If a man lays with a virgin he has to pay her parent's a dowry and then marry her. What is wrong with that? It's more than many parents do for their daughters. In some countries it is still practiced.
Back then slavery was a way of life. A slave was owned and therefore under the law property to be used as the owner seen fit. I'm not condoning it, I'm just stating that's they way it was in those days and again, still is in parts of the world.

Lets see, I wear a lot of jewelry, had sex before marriage, but am very glad I didn't have to marry the guy. I think the trick is to read it once you're an adult so all that bad behavior is behind you. Also, I pay close attention to the new testament when they're saying "Jesus said", just don't pay so much attention to the opinions of the very jewish apostles that wrote the new testament. You have to remember the source, devout jewish men in a very strict time. They were going on religious practices of that time, and women weren't given a lot of input on anything. Paul didn't want women to speak in the synagog, which makes sense because they couldn't very well discuss what was being said anyway, as all services were in hebrew, and jewish women weren't allowed to learn it. So, considering I'm not jewish and don't have to go by jewish law, I figure I'm real lucky. Notice Jesus never said any of this stuff. His words are what's important, not so much theirs, though they do have some good stuff too, just gotta sift thru it. The slavery part doesn't really apply since well, guess what, no slavery anymore. So, my place is whatever I decide it is, and I never shut my mouth.

I read my bible daily..and so does my wife! First off, the bible does not condone rape. If someone told YOU you would have to financially support your rape victim for the rest of her life you may rethink it! Never thought of it that way did you. Slavery was different then than north american slavery. They were well looked after. Stoning gays? Well it was a sin worthy of death according to God. You'd think the gay "christians" would take note of this, rather they look for loopholes to support the way they want to live. Very sad.

Yes I do read the Bible.
In fact I read it from cover to cover every year.
Back in my feminist days I thought that all I would have to do is rewrite the Bible taking out all of the sexist language.
What a joke that was. When I read the Bible from cover-to-cover the first time it changed me, I did not change it.
I invite you to read a modern day translation like the NIV looking at the context of the times. Yes, those definitely were patriarchal times but don't let that put you off. It really helps to read a Bible that is divided into daily readings to help you read it in one year. The Daily Walk Bible gives helpful context for each day's reading.
Feminism never cured me of spiritual diabetes but reading the Bible did. I also did an enormous amount of church shopping to find a Bible believing church. That amazes me to no end because I came from a very liberal church.

I am so sick of people taking things so literally from the Bible when it was from how many years ago??? Some things just don't pertain to now-a-days, these were the days when ALL daughters were sold for marriage. ALL women were expected to shut up and listen to their husbands. My father is a pastor and I have never met a happier woman than my mother. You try to make christians seem crazy but you just make yourself sound ignorant.

Women are the curse of mankind in Christianity from the minute Adam ate the apple.
And they wonder why Muslim women wear the Hijab.
And Muslim men too hate the rights the Quran gives to women and their children and so they turn away from Quran and invent Hadith to slay women for adultery and intent, with stoning to death and honour killings.
Islam commands Fasting to teach men restraint, but Muslims have turned Ramadan into a feast and a show of their ignorance.
The Bible is a trick and men will always be tricky towards women and their fellow men.

And if you do a little historical and biblical studying, you will find that these were the prevalent social norms of the time. It is often said that Paul didn't like women, and you can find all sorts of things in the OT "legal" books that wouldn't fly by today's standards.
Thank you for contributing to the trend of "Bible Quarterbacking."

That is totally miss understanding the bible. If you read the whole thing you'll feel God's love for you. You can't judge a book for it's cover or even for a few phrases in it. May God bless those who don't believe for when Jesus comes down from heaven the true believers will go to heaven with him. I hope that happens to everyone.

Some people actually take that seriously and thats what turns them off from christianity. Remember, its a proven fact that past kings (like from the Renaissance era) and the Catholic church have revised some things in the Bible to fit their liking so I doubt that those are the words of God.
