My son has a severe peanut allergy. He has an epi pen with him at all times. He just entered Kindergarten in Old Lyme CT. I am told that he may not have his epi pens with him on the school bus. Is there a law that states if epi pens can be carried on school buses by school age children?

No, the students are not allowed to be in possession of any medications themselves. You can give one to the bus driver to store on the bus and give one to the school nurse. The epi pen might also be classified as a weapon as well as a medication. My son's diabetic and was not allowed to carry insulin syringes or glucagon emergency kits because of the needle. You need to talk to everyone who will be in charge of your son's well-being to make certain they understand this condition, symptoms of reaction and how to use the epi pen. The bus driver may refuse (that's their perogative), and in fact, so may the nurse. My school's nurse would not administer glucagon when my son had a seizure from low blood sugar, but would call 911 and wait until they came (could be 20 minutes!). It's frustrating, but the school's not supposed to administer injectibles in most cases.

No, the students are literally not allowed to be in possession of any drugs themselves. you elements one to the bus driving force to keep on the bus and elements one to the college nurse. The epi pen ought to also be categorized as a weapon besides as a drugs. My son's diabetic and changed into not allowed to carry insulin syringes or glucagon emergency kits because of needle. you want to confer with each body who will be in cost of your son's nicely-being to substantiate they comprehend this situation, indicators of reaction and a thanks to apply the epi pen. The bus driving force ought to refuse (that's their perogative), and in reality, so ought to the nurse. My college's nurse would not administer glucagon even as my son had a seizure from low blood sugar, yet ought to call 911 and wait until eventually they got here (must be 20 minutes!). that's troublesome, notwithstanding the college's not meant to manage injectibles customarily.

i think you should check with the school, the bus company, and his doctor. my guess is that there all going to agree that he is to young to carry that and be expected to use it. what if some older kids get it? that stuff can kill you as well as save your life. i say give it to the school nurse ( do they still exist? ) she can keep it in her office.
