Voting is about economics, religion is spiritual and based on belief. Why do they vote with what their religious beliefs are and what their spiritual leaders tell them?

Not everybody feels politics is about economics. Politicians, after all, draft bills for laws & regulations. It is politicians who make a lot of decisions about drugs, prostitution, gay marriage, etc.

I've gone to church at 4 or 5 different denominations in my life & listened to the sermons of dozens of preachers. NOT ONCE has any preacher told the congregation who they should vote for or what party to vote for!

Many churches are passionate about such issues as gay marriage & abortion. I have heard a few preachers speak out against such policies, but only a few. My father was a preacher & he NEVER brought politics into his sermons.

If a person is passionate about education, they will likely vote for who ever serves the educational system best. If a person is passionate about crime & law enforcement, they will vote for who ever the feel will pass strict laws & enforce them. And if a person is passionate about the morality of their community, they will vote for who ever supports the moral standards they believe in. In each case, they ARE using thier brains.

I personally am more concerned with the economic aspect of politics & am against legistlating morality, but I try to understand the perspective of folks like my mother who think "If something is wrong, therefore it must be illegal."

For the government, it's whoever has the most campaign contributions...remember money = favors & power. The "Christian Right Power Players or CRPP" have plenty of money - which they have gotten from their sheep. They then funnel the money into a politician’s campaign that meets their agenda. The politician promises them the sun, moon and stars. The CRPP go back and convince the sheep that this politician will "help" and "protect" them. They tell the sheep that this is what God wants and that the homosexuals, and the women’s libbers, and the liberals will ruin their life if they don't vote for the said politician. The sheep go out and vote, the politician wins...and now the CRPP has a very tight link into the government. Basically they BUY their way in. Kinda scary, huh?

Because money does not happiness, yet good living does!

It is better to discern your political decision based on thought then to vote because of popularity, looks, a certain political party that you really don't follow, or because of an image you want to convey to others.

I think Faith is so important to the commitment on how a person wants to live their life, that religious guidance is very logical source for discernment.

My voting, my living styles, my morals, my Faith and Religion are in unison. At least I try to be consistent.

People that vote from religion based things just want to push their beliefs on everybody. Remerber most religions KNOW their way is the one & only true way. Now my religion gives me free choice, not that what I choose is the best or only way. I try to let others have that same choice.

Actually, most of them don't have any idea what they are doing... they are being duped. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

Christianity isn't just a Sunday thing - it's a way of life. If you truly believe in Jesus, then you must know the Word, live the Word, and share the Word of the Lord with others. A Christian life should be a reflection of the principles and beliefs - all the time, not just in church.

That's what religion is. Whatever your whole life is based around is your religion. In my case, my religion is Jesus because everything that I do is based on his teachings and I try to be like him. Atheists, for example, have logic or science as their religion because everything has to make sense to them. See what I mean? You can't separate daily activities from your religion.

There is not a clear-cut distinction as you think. Often the social sphere is overlapped by moral issues. Even economics, your example, when there are issues of exploitation and justice.
