-I refuse to go out on dates w/ guys who like to hold hands.
-I can't keep my eyes off of someone who has a cold. (Watching them sickens me, but I can't stop watching them)
-I spent 3 hours in my dorm straightening a book shelf, first by tallest to smallest, then by color. The color change messed up the height so I started back over again.
-I'm afraid to have sex. I mean, germs entering my body? *shivers*
-Will not get in an elevator
-Feel sorry for Monk sometimes.

Anyone else similar to this?

I am a sufferer of OCD myself; But thankfully I've had it under control for years with medication. My doctor told me that OCD may directly be linked to depression. Therefore, I am being treated for depression. The drug Zoloft aids in diminishing the effects of OCD. Scientists can't explain why, but it has something to do with the release of serotonin. Talk to a therapist before you become stuck iinside your apartment permanently rearranging your bookshelves. Believe me...I've been there!!!

I have OCD, and had lived with it for many years. But, several years ago, it started getting worse, I had to do things so many times (repeat actions) that it was taking up a lot of time and keeping me from getting things done. Then, I started thinking that I hit someone with my car. That was really hard, because I knew deep down that I hadn't hit anyone, but I had to go back and look. That's when I knew I had to get help. It is nice when you are on the right medicine. OCD does not go completely away, but I have very few symptoms now (IMO).

Get professional help obviously its a problem it you can't commit to a relationship because of a phobia, and re-arranging your book shelf takes up most of your time. Did you know that like 80% of the human body is made up of nothing but Germs...There is a germ on your face that eats the dead skin cells but it doesn't deficate and it is to be thanked for nice skin....there is nermous amounts of bacteria under your fingernails...and I'm sorry but the dorms are covered...get help and live life....

well from what I learned for abnormal psychology is that we all have triats of OCD.When it starts to become a problem is when it enter fears with your daily life and from what I picked up in your story it all ready has. I know that Im not a doctor or anything like that but being a psychology major I would say that the best is to go to like a counsuling center or something like that, because if you dont treat it, it has the probablity to get worse and no one should live their life in a constant state of fear or panic. Dont let this things beat you take control because you do have the power.

I hope that helped!

it gets really bad when you absolutely refuse to even open the door of your small germ-free dorm and you end up starving to death because the sandwiches they squash under the door are just too germ filled for you, and you ran out of your tightly sealed germ-free snacks long ago.

maybe you should try to think that you have germs inside you too.

are you dead?

no. thats because not all germs are bad, only the disease-spreading ones. the chances of you dying because of some germ that got on you in an elevator are extremely unlikely.

maybe you should try getting used to elevators by going in by yourself or with only one or two people.

and mess isn't all that bad. it feels quite comfortable for me. if you really need help that bad, try a therapist or a doctor.
