I've had males and females, I have a male now and I've always found that males are more affectionate than the females, but that may be because I am a female. I believe the females are more independant. Only want you when they want you :)

I've always thought males are more affectionate than females. When we went to adopt our first last year, the woman at our Humane Society agreed with me! It was then that I knew I wasn't just being gender biased, lol. She also said a male would be better for our then 5 year old son. We have a female now, too, and even though she's a lot more affectionate than any other female cat I've ever run across, she's still not NEARLY as affectionate as our male.
Also keep in mind that it sometimes has to do with the sex of the human, as well. I've noticed a pattern with a lot of animals I've known; the females are more attached to the male humans in their lives, and the males to the female humans. Our new female cat is more attentive to my husband, but our male is a mama's boy:)

I have owned both sexes and I think male cats are more affectionate with female owners. I owned a few nice female cats but the ones I got the most love from were males.

I have a female cat now. She is the first female cat I have owned. Previously owned males only. She is very affectionate, I cant tell a difference from males. But I do suggest getting the female cat fixed. Because when females go into heat they yell very very loud! and they look possessed while they roll on the floor. Plus they spray the worst smelling odor on everything. But still very sweet girls! She is my baby.

I have 3 female cats and one male cat. My female is very affectionate with me. I don't think it matters male or female, I beleive all cats have a sense of personality.....and thats what makes them affectionate or not. Also in the way in which they were raised.

i own both a male cat and a female cat. My male cat is so distant and my female cat is so friendly. I believe female cats are way more affectionate. My grandma has a female cat and it just follows me around the room trying to sit on my lap.

Female cats tend to be more affectionate and less aggressive.
Having said that, I presently am down to 2 males, having lost the females over the past year, and both are very loving.
The more they go outside, the more independent they become so may 'show' less affection, but they still are.
Like other animals - they give back what they receive.

Well, I've had 4 females and 1 male over the years, I think it really just depends on the cat. I'm realizing though, between dogs and cats and other critters, I'm gonna stick with male animals. I personally seem to have better luck with the males(I'm a female, not sure if that may have anything to do with it-meaning males like me better?)

I have owned both male and female cats and I find males to be more affectionate and loyal than females. My opinion, for what it's worth

i've had two sets of male and female, and my males were more affectionate than my females. Males tend to bond to humans more than females. Females tend to mind their own business for the most part. Females don't tend to be mean or aggresive towards their owners, just simply not as affectionate.
