is there any way that you can slow the effects that the tremendous amount of sugar is about to take hold on your body? Like, can you even the sugar-dosage out? (perhaps by drinking lots of water?)
or is it hopeless? (you have to go with the ups and downs of the sugar overdose?)

Eat dark chocolate. Lots of fat, less sugar--the fat will slow down the sugar rush into your bloodstream. Also, fiber, whole grains, veggies, protein--these help regulate sugar in your bloodstream. They take longer to digest and they slow down the whole sugar-insulin-up-down-crash thing. Water won't really help--it just keeps things hydrated. I mean, if you're dehydrated, then drink enough water to keep your body's water level up at a normal level, but otherwise, it's not going to help blood sugar very much.

If sugar rushes are an issue with you, make sure you don't have insulin resistance (pre-diabetes, or a danger sign of possible diabetes in the future.) If you only have the crash and burn after chocolate...sorry, but you might have to cut way back. Chocolate can really affect acid reflux and migraines, and it might be hitting you in a weird way because it's a really intense food with some possible bad side effects. Try eating it at about the same time as healthy food (low glycemic index is helpful)--that is, only at meal time. I mean, before, during, or after a meal, not as a snack or late-night munchie. Mind your blood sugar, and you'll feel better all the time! And check out some diabetes info--they have tips on how to eat to avoid sugar rushes and crashes.

Don't eat the chocolate.

Eat something after the chocolate like a bowl of oatmeal or some kind of fiber food like fruits or whatever if you want something in your stomach to help slow the absorbtion of the sugar.'
