Sit down be comfortable. Turn of the TV and just relax. Concentrate on your breathing, on the oxygen coming into your lungs, flowing threw your body, calming your body, and pushing out all your fears, troubles, pain or what ever else. Convince yourself with every breath your body is calming, your brain is relaxing and your thoughts are positive.

The basic idea is to get your mined on something relaxing, taking it off what ever bad thing it might be on otherwise. Its a form of meditation. But if that don't float your boat you can try something like lighting a candle and just look at the flam, lose yourself in it. It takes practice, put it works once you start to get the hang of it. It don't take to long to start to see benefits.

Every time i went on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan i used what i just talked about. It helped me. Good luck.

Try stretching. Find an open area and stretch out your legs, body, and arms. Them do some jumping jacks. Go right into some sit -ups then jog in place for a few minutes.
Second opp: Get a membership to a gym and get on the treadmill - just dont over do it.
Playing sports like tennis keeps you moving and is a good cardio exercise.
The benefits from the exercises come when you work up a sweat - so whatever you do, try to work up a sweat.

Deep breathing. If you have a violent/flare-up temper, and are looking for a way to handle that, try getting a punching bag and hitting it for a while.

A brisk walk or even a short jog might also help. You need to determine if you need a quiet calming method (yoga, deep breathing) or more active one (jogging). I hate running, but find that getting sweaty has a way of making everything else matter less than getting home to a shower!

I walk. I force myself out of the house every day. I also say my Hail Mary's and Our Father's. Not for the spiritual benefits. It's like a montra and the prayers help me get the clutter outta my head and get back to "center". Sometimes I even put my headphones on and sing a favourite song right out loud.

You can buy and even download guided relaxation exercises. They usually last about 20 minutes. They help especially when stressed or before bed.

jovent hit the nail on the head. And he stole my answer, grrrrrrrr.. Semper Fi bro.

But basically yes, the key to relaxing at home or anywhere is to simply breathe in and out.... and feel it flow in and out of your body....

Running works for me. I use the nervous energy to run as hard as I can. At some point the andorphians kick in. When they do usually you fell better.
