Truly, I find the smoking much more dangerous! You are holding something on fire, and must look away from the road to light it!

This was an argument between a friend and I (friendly). She remarked that I shouldn't drink my soda while driving, which I found amusing as she smokes everytime she drives, and drives with her knees while lighting up!

I drink a soda or bottle of water while I drive. It's in the cup holder and when you come to a stop sign or red light grab a swallow.
I also smoke. My car is old enough that it has an ash tray in it, so no I don't pitch my butt out the window. I can also light up keeping one hand on the wheel.
I worry about people talking on cell phones and can't wait for them to make that illegal

You can drink a soda and drive, just not alcohol. And smoking and driving is not dangerous at all, I mean give me a break I can look at the road the entire time from Light up to putting it out.

who told you drinking a soda while drive a car isn't acceptable - I am guess it was probably a smoker ;-). Drinking any non-alcoholic beverage in a car is ok - that's why most new cars have cup holders.
Update - your friend is silly - again - point out to her the cup holders in cars - many new cars are getting rid of the ash trays

Anything that distracts the driver or encumbers either hand is both dangerous and unacceptable. The only difference would be that in order to drink a soda from a can, you would have to distract your vision while you lifted the can up.

Our branch does not enable smoking in city automobiles. There are distinctive factors exterior for smoking. Where is illegal to drink soda where driving? I agree...it doesn't make much sense! Kinda like no helmet law but making me wear my seat belt. That ticks me off!!

Both should be illegal! Along with using the phone. I praise the countries that have already made that one law.
The cup holder in the front of the car was a bad, bad invention.
