The U.S. Department of Treasury manages Federal finances; collects taxes, duties, and monies paid to and due to the U.S.; pays all U.S. debts; produces all postage stamps, currency and coinage; manages government accounts and public debt; supervises national banks and thrift institutions; advises on domestic and international financial, monetary, economic, trade and tax policy; enforces federal finance and tax laws;
investigates and prosecutes tax evaders, counterfeiters, forgers,
smugglers, illicit spirits distillers, and gun law violators; and protects the President, Vice President, their families, candidates for those offices, foreign missions resident in Washington and visiting foreign dignitaries.
