Help me with this riddle?

Question

What is greater than god, more evil than the devil? The poor have it, the rich need it. If you eat it you will die?

This was sent to my email and I cannot figure it out - it is bugging me that I do not know the answer.

The answer is nothing. I heard that one and while back. For most people "nothing" is the first thing to pop into their head, but they're so bent on it having to be something clever, that they strain their brain trying to figure it out.

Just like this riddle:

Three words in the English language end in -gry. One is "hungry" and the other is "angry". What is the third word in the English Language?

I spent days trying to figure this one out, I even searched the internet to no avail. But then I saw someone asked the question on yahoo answers. The answer is "language." Because in the phrase "the English Language" it is the third word. I felt soo stupid.
