i've been a old fashion romantic all my life. the problem is that most women i come across are to independent and don't want it. they have been so used to not getting romance in their life, they can't figure out that the romance does still live. i'd love to find a woman who is just as romantic as i am.

Yes, there are romantic men in the world, alive and kicking. Some are poets, some are auto mechanics, some are angry young students, some are little old guys in wheelchairs.
The biggest reason that most men do not express their romantic feelings is probably past responses that they have received from women. A guy can tell his buddies to back off, but will usually say nothing if a gal hurts his feelings.
How would you feel if you were told "What a waste of money, those flowers will just die in a couple of days!"? Or "Some poem, you misspelled romantic."? Or "We can't do that here!"?
If you want romance, encourage those around to to be romantic. Praise every attempt, even those which might be poor. Men have a hard enough time expressing their emotions honestly. Help the men you know to do so.
And when you have (if you have) sons, make sure you teach them well. If every mother did, you would not be having such a hard time.

'Romance' seems to mean slightly different things to different people so women who are not actually expected to take the lead in romantic behaviour have a much easier time of it since all that is expected of them is some kind of response. On the other hand woman may hold expectations of a man which because they are so individual may make it impossible for a guy to guess what she wants leading to disappointment for both.
The solution is total equality... women should take the lead and buy men flowers, at least half the time. Expressions such as 'He is taking her out' should become 'They are going out together' Plan surprise romantic outings for him.[ Make sure he's not playing football that day though.]
If women stop taking a back seat and show the way by example men are capable of learning.
'Do unto others as you would be done by'

I think that 'men not liking romance' is a stereotype of the male gender. Men like romance, but they might have different ways of showing it. I think that most guys would want to be romantic to the person that they're with - when you are in love and truely care about the person you're with then it just happens naturally. If a guy has to "try hard" or force himself to be romantic..then he is either 1) not that interested or, 2) unsure as to how to show how he feels in a romantic way.

Yes, plenty of men are romantic,,,, specially those who are close to mothers or grandmothers...
But don;t ask him to be romantic..
They just come out naturally on the man..
If not,,, then he is not romantic...
But still it would not be a basis not loving him or him not loving you..
