where do i get the file if i trasfer from desktop its a shortcut?

If you have a shortcut on your desktop to a file, clicking on it will open the file. But if you just want to locate the file right click on the shortcut and select properties from the menu. In the properties window click the find target button and it will take you to the folder holding the file.
