You shouldn't just want to be with her to join in the group. That's taking advantage of her. You should first clear your little middle school head- if someone used you to join some group you were in, wouldn't you be mad? You have to stop thinking about just joining the popular group. Ask someone to a dance that you really like, not just for the benefits. If she finds out that you wanted to go with her because you wanted to get into the group and show everybody that your 'cool', the popular group will start hating on you. I'm not kidding.

I'd ask her about a month before the dance, but I wouldn't wait that long to ask her out.
Ask her if she'd like to go bowling, a movie, or find something really original to do for a date (EXAMPLE: Take her to dinner at an Italian place, order spaghetti for two, candle light, soda in wine glasses, and Lady and the Tramp on video on a laptop.) If you two are dating by the time of the dance, she'll most likely want to go with you anyhow.
Please don't worry about joining the 'popular group'. If you do your thing like you want to, be the guy you really want to be, you'll find yourself hangin with some pretty cool people who respect you.
Good luck!

First of all, I understand the 'importance' of being "popular" in school. I think it's more important that you find out who you are and be nothing but that. My point is- be yourself always and you'll become the most popular person at heart. Now on this girl issue, I would let her know now. I would say "hey, since I missed my chance for this coming dance, can I count on you as my date to the dance in November then?" Get her while she's free.... if you wait- she may not be available.
:)
Good Luck!

First of all you should like someone just cause they are in the popular group. Trust me it all changes in high school and then after high school it doesnt even matter at all. I would ask her to the next dance a couple of days after the dance you are about to go to. You dont want to seem desperate! Hope this helps

Hello Zman,

Popularity is when you are friendly with everybody, not just hanging with the registered popular people. Learn to say hello to everyone in the halls and learn people's names. That's one way of becoming popular.

As for this girl, go ahead and ask her out to that November dance, but don't just save yourself for her. There are plenty of other girls that you can get to know better too. Girls always like to keep their options open, so you should do the same. Your desirability will go up as you get to know more people. So do that.

the one rule i try to follow is not to try and date women that are already dating.
If she does it once what is to stop her doing it to you...

look for someone else, if she is the one then you will get your chance with her at some stage

I suggest you try to read and write before you think of dating.
