yes. for some odd purpose I believe there were some folk way back when who pondered where we can from, how we got here etc etc. would it be widely accpeted that we were just **poof** placed here. by no one in particular? I'm sure someone back then supposed that there had to be something, namely someone, that looked like us and was far more intelligent and powerful than us that had to start all of this. science was nonexistent then so what to do when you can't prove something reasonably? Let's make up someone and call him god and say that is he who created everything and everyone. now, this person has a name, supposedly a face and, more importantly, someone that can be credited as being the one who started all of this. if you were to simply state that someone did this; then who? that theory would get shot down real quick and never pass grade. however, if you were to conjure someone up, just like us, but stronger, smarter and more powerful THEN it would seem feasible that god could've done all this. A story is nothing without a main character.

Absolutely. Religion is essential for the survival of society because it is unifying. Also, God's omnipotence explains away any doubts of how the universe works. Furthermore, the existence of a God generally indicates the existence of an afterlife, giving meaning to the ephemeral and brief human life on earth.

No. 2 thousand years in the past mankind grow to be so far progressed yet religions observed the improvements as evil and area of devil artwork destroying many many improvements which took mankind the final public of right here 15 or so centuries to REDISCOVER them. besides, God isn't an invention mankind can conjure up. as long as you have the ignorant, superstitious residing in concern, you have got God for GOD "IS" the phobiatic nature of this species and you will't invent this nature.

Societies as far back as we can find some form of written records or surviving artwork have always needed a god or gods to explain the unexplained. Humans have always needed to find someone else to either look up to or to blame, and since no one can see or talk to these beings, they were easy to manufacture and convince others about.
Too much or too little rain? The gods are angry. No one could disprove their existence, nor could they otherwise explain these occurances.

Clearly, based off of human history, we as a species have an innate desire to create stories to explain "why things are." That has in almost every single instance ended with that culture's "invention" of a deity. As we are developing intellectually, we are satisfying that need with science and technology.
So I suppose the answer is, yes for right now, but someday perhaps not.

If I didn't believe whole heartily in the Lord, I would sleep in on Sundays. I would be home on time for the start of 1:00 Steelers' games instead of missing opening drives. I wouldn't spend my Thursday evenings volunteering with the church youth groups or Tuesday evenings at Bible study. Life would be "easier" at times if there were no God, but there is - and He has "saved my life" in more ways than one, so I am thankful.

Well if he didn't I think we may have to create some form of a
superior being who determines where we go after we die.
Otherwise we really wouldn't think that there are any
consequences to anything we do that is morally wrong. Sure we
will still have jails and prisons but I don't think enough fear will
still be placed upon people to prevent from them committing any
serious crimes.

Wow you made me think. I would have to say YES. Much like santa clause, and the easter bunny, as people we need something to believe in. I don't know why this is, but there is a desire in everyone to have "faith" or "believe" in something (or absolutely nothing.) For most it keeps us going. Human beings, as a whole, have to "invent" enities, etc., to fulfill this longing for something other than reality; Or jade and embelish things that have existed to "medicate the masses." Great question, though. For the record I'm a Christian, and my faith is unshakeable, but you made a terrific point.

Yes. A lot of people can't handle the fact that there are some things that we just don't know. Creating a God is the easiest way to explain those things.

My, but aren't you uppity. But in answer to your question, that's exactly what happened. "god" was invented by man, in order to expain what he couldn't. That led to organized religion, which, we all know, is simply a means for the few to control the many (through fear), obtain wealth, and to gain power.
That should be simple enough for even you to understand.
