I am renting a room in a resturant for three hours and need to keep my guest entertained. Children and adults.

That depends on the ages of the children who will be attending your party. The 1 yr old probably could care less about games, just give him the party boxes & ribbons & papers & stuff.

The adults will be entertained with the cake & ice cream, maybe party hats and balloons & watching the baby and the gift opening.

In fact I think if it were me I wouldn't do games at all. Just have a goodie bag for each of the kids that are attending maybe with stuff in the bag that they can play with.'

I agree with Bluealt. At a first birthday, the birthday boy won't really be interested in all of the games (or much of anything else, really, until you put that cake in front of him!). The adults aren't going to be expecting to be entertained, but if you are going to be having older siblings, cousins, or friends, that age group is the one that you'll be wanting something for.

If the kids will all be in the toddle age-group, then simple things, like a pin the tail on the donkey (with scotch tape instead of pins!), or a table set up with coloring books and crayons.

Older kids are better able to play the musical chairs-sort of games. You could fill a sippy cup or bottle up with something, like cheerios, and the kids could guess how many. Closest gets a prize.

For the adults, at the last 1st birthday I was at, the mom had a plate printed with a hawaiian design (it was a luau theme), and had the guests all write on it, to keep as a memento. This was an okay idea to keep the adults entertained, and another idea is to buy a wide, light colored photo mat (at least 8x10 would be best) and have everyone write on that. Then, after the party, you could take the best shot of your son and frame them together. That would also make an excellent keepsake for you to pass on when they get older.

Gift bags are also excellent. I think that if the guests are very young, I would pass them out right before you do presents, so they'll have something to do while they're sitting and watching. And if you aren't having too many young guests, or if they are in all different age groups, you could even make a somewhat personalized gift bag for each child (Jimmy gets a hotwheels, Anna gets hair barretts, and Joey the 3 month old gets a teething ring, or something like that.)

Good luck!
