Show the person the summary of Catholic beliefs is contained in the Nicene Creed (from the year 325) below. Ask them if there is anything in it that shows Catholics are not Christians.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
With love in Christ.

How does anyone defend their beliefs? You have know your faith. You need to know why there are differences. Some one was making a "question" of a Bible verse that says the heart is deceitful. I posted 60 verses such as "love God with all your heart."
What you also need is to do is create a 'Holy Envy". Point out the things about your church that could benefit them. I'm not a Catholic, but I find the mass is more 'worship' centered than our meetings.

I don't get it... aren't Catholics Christians? Do you mean "defend to a Protestant?"
???
EDIT: Oookay. I see from a couple of the answers that this question has brought out some of the religious nutcases who would rather hate and judge than follow the teachings of their savior. Very nice.
So why would you bother to defend yourself against people who aren't truly Christian, since they haven't accepted the teachings of Christ, but would rather divide and defame rather than celebrate love and forgiveness?

Okay, dummies. Listen up. Catholics are Christians, no matter what your friendly KKK boss told you. Maybe you don't like their theology or the pope but their religion is a Christ based one.
The mass is no more than a fancy ceremony which claims to re-enact the sacrifice of Jesus body and blood for our sins.
So you don't believe it, that's fine, it's called freedom of religion, but don't lie and say Catholics are not Christians.
I really get sick of all this religious bigotry.

That is not wrong ignore the first question of that ignorant loser. You can't help what you belive in and you have a right of your conversion. Just tell them," The Bible states "Do not judge and thou shall not be judged." Or tell tell them, if you were a true Christ believer you would accept me as I am. no but seriously Catholic is Christianity, they are just a branch. So there would be no need to defend it.

If you were the best catholic you could be, you wouldn't need ideas to defend what you believe. Sounds like YOU need to be convinced that you're doing the right thing to me. People who are truly passionate about the way they live their lives don't really feel the need to explain themselves, unless they have doubt.
