I am wiccan/pagan and do not personally believe it is necessary to cast spells. A spell would be the same as a prayer and if you need props to say a prayer then go ahead, I just don't think it needs to be done that way. I ask the universe for what I need and if it is to be, then it is. Many religions have ceremonies and set prayers to ask for certain things, wicca is not any different.

Does prayer work?
There's your answer.
Yes, some Wiccans cast spells, some don't. It's not the main driving practice of the religion, and in many cases doesn't make up more than just a small part of a Wiccan's religious path. It's about the spirituality, not the spellwork.

Witchcraft has areas of spell casting. The biggest problem with that is that if you cast a spell on a clear vessel that has been cleared by surrender to Jesus Christ, then the energy will return to it's source and bring 7 more demons with it. It is a dangerous because witches are assuming that all people are suseptable to their witchery. It is really like playing Russian Roulet. Not a smart path to even explore. I am dealing with a family that started our playing with develish toys. They graduated to satanic worship and are now in a state of mind that I would call hell. They can be delivered by God, and I am believing they will. If you were to ask them they would tell you to not even go near curious arts at all. Funny thing is that God's Words are saying the same thing.

A spell is a ritual that has a particular purpose. Some rituals are purely celebratory, but a spell is done to accomplish something. Spells might be used for healing, prosperity, attracting a mate, or even to rid yourself of bad habits. Spells are basically elaborate prayer, using candles, incense, meditation and such.
Wiccans are prohibited by their belief system from engaging in spells or other activities which harm others. This is a logical result of Wiccans' belief in the three-fold law, and their commitment to follow the Wiccan Rede -- their prime rule of behavior:
The Wiccan Rede: "An it harm none, do what thou wilt." (In modern English: "Do whatever you wish as long as it harms no one.")
Three-fold Law: "All good that a person does to another returns three-fold in this life; harm is also returned three-fold."
The Rede obviously prevents a Witch/Wiccan from doing harm to themselves or to others, or attempting to manipulate others, taking harmful drugs, etc. Thus, many activities that have been traditionally attributed to Wiccans -- from the laying of curses to conducting love spells -- are strictly forbidden to them.
Here is an example, you will find it rather non-threatening:
