Aka lap dogs.

Which breed is the most friendly, and doesn't bark as much with that high pitched "yip"?

I have shih-tzu, Yorkie and bichon, they are all great friendly dogs. You can train any of these breeds not to bark, if that is what you want. Their pitch is not that high. They have a bark collar that you can purchase at the pet center of Wal-Mart and other stores. It give off a high pitch sound when your dog barks, and it will train them not to. I only have had to use this on one of my dogs and I have had house pets for 35 years. The others responded to training with out the collar. These dogs are better for people that have allergies. They do not shed and are very easy to train. And their yip is not high pitched.

Pugs are the best by far! I have 4 and they are the best lap dog you can find. If you can handle them trying to steal your pillow at night, curling up in the blankets with you, snoring, following you from room to room, always awaiting your presence and attention, then you could be a very happy owner with a pug.

I love my little maltese....he has been very sweet. He is almost 18 years old and I can't bear the thought of something happening to him. He really is showing his age. But in his younger years he was very playful. When I'm feeling down or don't feel well he "protects" me. When my dear sweet daddy passed away, Ritz Bitz was at my side and when I was crying wouldn't allow anyone to come near me. He has been a very close loyal friend!

I went w/a Maltese, and she's an absolute doll. My best friend has a Yorkie, and she is well behaved but too hyper (reminded me of a chihuahua). My maltese is very loving, playful, sweet and very smart. She doesn't bark unless provoked (when she feels threatened). And even when she does,it's not very loud and doesn't last.Good Luck :)

i heard a shih tzu doesnt yap, but i got one and even though she doesnt even bark when somoen comes in the door it is an annoying bark when she does. its just the size that causes the bark to sound that way. shih tzus, pugs, french bulldogs, and boston terriers all have friendly personalities.

Get a Pug!!! For one, they can be litter box trained. Two, they rarely bark. Three, they're little balls of amazing personality!
