Be honest with her. Tell her that it was very nice of her to think of you and buy the shirt, but that the shirt just isn't your type. So that she doesn't feel bad, why not ask her if the two of you could go shopping together one day and have a girl's day out.

Tell your mom, thank you and you really love her for taking the time to get you something but you really don't think the shirt looks good on you. You have to be honest.

Honesty is the best policy,
but be gentle and caring about it.
She will appreciate it very much.
I'm sure she meant well,
and had hopes that she understood your style
or that she could add a variation to your style
that you might approve of.
Honor her giving, and she will love you for it.

don't wear it I've learned from experience that most parents love for you to be true to them just don't be rude when you tell her like the way you would be with a girl friend say it nicely and she'll appreciate it even more

Be honest, but respectful. Parents don't always know the styles unless we ask younger sales people. I've learned to never buy clothing unless it's for me, and then it's still better if my daughter goes along.

tell her that if she like the shirt, then she should wear that by herself because not everyone has the same interest.
