my comp only has a cd drive...is that why it cant play dvds???

Yes, you have to have at least a DVD-Rom drive or a DVD-Writer to play DVDs on your computer. A CD drive will not do it. You can get DVD drives for as low as $20 to $40.

Lite-On is a good brand as is Sony, LG, Toshiba, BenQ, etc..

Yes u need a dvd drive to play dvd's on computer. Cheapest at Best Buy. Otherwise move your computer by your tv and watch dvds there. Good luck

A DVD drive will usually play CD's. You should check out the specifications to make sure it reads CD's and at what speed. Keep in mind that replacing a CD drive in a laptop can be quite challenging. You have to make sure that the CD drive actually fits in the computer and most laptops aren't really servicable by the uninitiated.

Yes, and after you do pop in a DVD-Drive, you need software to atually run the disc. After your software actually works, make sure you have all the necessary codecs. After that, make sure you computer/speakers don't suck to play the movie.

yup, how old is your computer if you dont mind me asking.
Most computers now comes with a dvd drive standard. of course you add a little extra to get DVD recordable

you can play DVD's even with your CD Rom. get one DVD player (software) from internet. it works. i am doing the same
