How far apart were you? Did it last? And do you have any advice for someone like me, who's just starting out in one?

Jerry - We have met in the real world. We didn't meet online. It's just long distance because I'm going to college now.

Higgins - Oh I know, I'm glad we have seperate lives :) I couldn't stand to be together all the time.

I live in michigan and dated someone who lives in california. The advantage we had was that we both worked for an airline so seeing each other wasn't too crazy...I saw her about 2 or 3 times a month for a couple days each time and we talked almost every day. With technology and webcams now there's really no reason why you can't have full blown dinnerdates and stuff from miles away. Unfortunately, mine ended for other reasons.

I was in a long distance relationship for 1 year with a guy 4 states away. It went great but you need to understand you both have seprate lives so don't get mad if they don't call you all the time and stuff!! Good Luck!

I also just start out in one at least I hope so :). Anyway, he lives in Canada and I live in Europe. I think you need good communication and lots of trust. As higginslove3 said he/she has a life without you where he/she is and sometimes they just don't have time to call you or whatever. If possible meet as often as you can. Sometimes you can surprise him/her e.g. with a hand written letter or a postcard but don't be to clingy. Good luck!!!

I met my wife in a chat room..She lived in California and I live here in Texas. We chatted almost every night online and would use the telephone when possible. We kept in touch via internet for about a year then she finally moved here to be with me. That was over 6 years ago..and we did get married..So I suggest, yes it does work but it takes time for it to develop. Good luck.

Yes for 13 years, my girlfriend is in Estonia and I am hundreds of miles from there in England.
We love each other, but we both love our country more and believe that God wants us to remain at our post's where we are.

So our friendship is full of love, intimate letters, emailing, use of the phone, exchange of postcards and gifts, and locks of hair. It's great. There will never be any marriage and without that no sex for sure, but platonic friendship, love without sex, can be really strong and good. Try it.
