Yes, it's a really embarassing and rather insensitive thing to say, but it has to be done. Personally i'd rather have someone i know tell me i have bad breath, then get disgusting looks from random people.

Oh my God YES! I don't know why, but a good friend of mine always gets bad breath when he is hungry. I think it has something to do with the lining of his stomach. I usually just give him a piece of gum.

Yes, I have. It was so bad I KNEW it had to be a medical condition, as it persisted despite repeated brushing and mouth wash for them! I finally had to tell them to please stand back when they were talking to me, because their breath was offensive. They were embarrassed, but kept their distance, and I told them they really needed to go be seen by their doctor or dentist. They discovered they had severe periodontal disease, and ended up having to have surgery on their gums just a few months later!

Yes, she was a very close friend. I simply started off by asking her whether she goes to the dentist or not. Turns out she was very scared of going. I explained to her that her problem needed taking care of & we actually ended up going together. Worked out fine.

Yes, and I hope someone will tell me when my breath stinks so that I don't offend more people. Some people get offended when you tell them they have halitosis.
