Is this a guy you only just started dating? If so, then I would have major suspicions about his lack of judgement. I wouldn't want to marry -- or date -- a guy who so quickly jumped to that conclusion and was so eager to lay it on me like that. As others have said, he might just be trying to win you over and he's going too fast.
Or, if it's a guy you've been dating for a while, and you already have a serious relationship, maybe he really DOES want to marry you! Did he propose, or was he just remarking on the fact that he wants to marry you someday?
I'm not sure how the "huge wedding" aspect ties into any of this. I don't know many guys who've taken a strong interest in the size or details of their wedding (my husband did, but he's unusual!)
Try pressing him for more details on why he feels that way, and why he felt compelled to share it with you in the way he did. It could be enlightening and give you a good sense of his sincerity.

I think it is to show everyone that he has money and that he can do big things like that. I wouldn't really care if i were to have a house or back yard wedding. Who made the ring an idea of engaging someone? I don't really know what that is for either.

it depends on the age if your young then he probably is just in love with you or has had a love won pass away that meant alot to him and he doesn't want to loose anybody else
if your older late 20 or older then you aren't getting any younger just make sure that you really love him and you feel as if you can't live a single day with out him the person that you miss when your away from him for 5 minutes
but most of all make sure you really love him and he really loves you don't want to get divorced in your life time
