I am assuming you are using Windows,
Some people here are saying that any installed software will show up in your Add/Remove Programs or Programs section of the Start Menu. This is actually not always true. Many malicious programs, in this case a trojan, are designed to run covertly and hide themselves from the user. They do not create an entry in the start menu, nor would they show up on the add/remove programs list.
A good virus scanner may detect known trojans/viruses/spyware. Symantec Antivirus would be my choice, however there are several excellent products (some are even free) that would work. In any case it is always a smart idea to run an antivirus program at all times, as a preventative measure.
Perhaps the best thing to do would be to have someone you know and trust, who has some experience cleaning viruses from computers look at your system.
The bottom line is, if you use your computer for anything personal then you should not let anyone you do not trust use it.

Go to add and delete programs in my computer (on your computer) and look. All the programs should be there. Sounds like a really trusting relationship.
