within a week or two, upto 10 lbs on average, maybe a little more. but that weight can be lost, can be avoided as well. Benefits of quitting smoking are still far better than the weight you may put on.

I found that when I quit smoking, food suddenly tasted a whole lot better and I found myself overeating. Once I identified the cause, I was able to control it and then take off the weight I put on through exercise. I also noticed the more I exercised, the less my cravings for nicotine were, so all in all, it worked out fine. (Even if my pants were a little snug for a couple of months. lol)

why do you wanna know that? Just stop smoking, if you do, and do it the normal way to lose weight. run (at least 10 minutes a day will make it), exercise (at least 4 times a week), and eat well (it is not starving to death). Plus, sleep between 7-9 hrs. Simple.

It's very possible that you can gain weight when you quit. Nicotine is an appetite supressor, so after you quit, you get your appetite back. People can gain a lot of weight, a little weight or none...it depends on your metabolism, what you eat and how often you exercise. You'll be hungry a lot more once you quit...if you watch what you eat, you'll be fine.

If you are thinking of quitting, good luck!! You can do it, and you'll feel so much better once you do.

The reason you supposedly gain weight is because people tend to eat more after giving up. Just try to get a hobby to somehow take your mind of either. My dad managed to give-up easily after 30 years by chewing on gum when he got a craving. Good Luck!

the reason most people gain weight is because they had a previous oral fixation (smoking) and now they try to replace that with something else to put in their mouth...that would normally be food
