I think you misunderstand your diagnosis.

Sinusitus is an infamation of the sinus passages, usually due to an infection.

These sinuses or "pockets" occur in the front part of your skull, in your face, not in the back of your brain.

Often people get them after a prolonged head cold, or allegeries when mucus sits in the area and bacteria is able to take root.

The main signs & symptoms are severe pressure and/or pain in the cheekbone or eyebrow area. You may have a fever, or notice a foul smell.

If you are a healthy person in general it should not be a large concern. You go to the doctor and they usually give you 10 days of antibiotics and recomend a decongetant to help reduce the feeling of pressure.

If you get many sinus infections a year, or have health complications your doctor may take more serious action which may include an option for surgery.

I assume the infection is actually in the brain, which is serious. Can lead to brain damage.
