Medium rare. To cook steak any more dries it out and makes it tougher to eat. You should take a steak off about five minutes before it's done because it continues to cook. You can tell if it's ready by touch.

For rare, let your left hand hang loose in front of you. Poke your right index finger into the fleshy part of your left hand between your index finger and thumb. It will offer very little resistance and is soft and pliable. This is how a steak cooked rare will feel to the touch.

For medium rare, extend the same left hand but this time spread out your fingers and poke the same spot with your right index finger. You'll see that it is firmer and a little springy to the touch. This is how a steak cooked medium rare will feel.

For medium, make a fist with your left hand and poke again. It should feel firm and only give a little. This is how the medium steak will feel.

For those how like their meat well done, guess how that feels. Very firm!

It depends on the steak but usually somewhere around medium done will do fine.

Best way to cook a nice bit of rump is to let the enzymes get at it for a while just till it starts a greenish tinge then just a couple of minutes either side in the pan and it's done to a T :o)

Until a year ago the only way I would eat a steak was "well done". Then my husband nagged me about it until I finally tried it "medium well" and I liked it, actually I started liking steak more. I \ tasted a bite of his favorite the other day -"medium rare"- and I must admit I liked it. It still freaked me out to see all that pink but I must say the taste is yummy.

I used to like them well done but then I read somewhere that cooking your steaks well done burned out some of the nutrients and the good stuff, so I started getting them med-well and even medium. And they have turning out pretty tasty. I'm going cook one tonite since we are talking about them.

Cindered to the point of being just short of carbon. Its extremely hard to get any chef to cook a steak to the burntness i require. I like no moisture left in it.
I find it so tasty that done this way. My wife didnt believe me that I could enjoy it, so she tried it one day, and did agree that it was tasty and did not taste as bad as it looked.
Not well done, not V well done, not even VV well done I am talking BURNT!
I sometimes wonder am i the only person that like his steak this way.

Medium or medium rare. If you ask for a well-done steak in France the chef will quite often refuse!

Okay heres how I like it.... Cooked to the point whereby if you threw it against a wall it'd come right back at ya and knock you clean out!!!!! Charcoal is good, Blood is bad!!!!
However I prefer white meat and v rarely eat red..... But happy cooking all the same.

Medium well with salt and garlic salt on it. Don't like to much seasoning because it ruins the flavor of the steak.

I quite often have it in sandwich with plenty of English mustard, a little salt and plenty of freshly ground black pepper.
I usually have a nice very lean slab of fresh fillet steak. I cook it in very hot griddle pan for less than a minute on each side, brown on the outside and still bleeding inside.

Curse you!!! Now you've caused my mouth to water, just thinking about it...........Bloody hell!!! how am I going to get to sleep now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
