I love you just the way you are, in a brotherly kind of way.

Sarcasm if done well is an art form and something not everyone will get. There's your average "common denominator" sarcasm and there's the top shelf Crown Royal kind of stuff.

Your stuff is good and would be missed.

Besides, some of these people are just asking for it.

Sarcasm is sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony[1]. It is often used in a humorous manner and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Most commonly, sarcasm involves stating the opposite of the intended meaning, e.g. "That's amazing" (sarcastically) might be used to mean "that's awful". A person's disposition to sarcasm is sometimes viewed as a symptom of concealed anger.

"and how do you know that someone in the religion section is being sarcastic?"

I think that is the real problem. Sarcasm just isn't as effective when writing. You really need to be speaking to pull it off correctly or you are often misunderstood.

For example: I think you are really smart.

You might think I was paying you a compliment.

Or: I think you are REALLY smart.

Now it looks like I might be being sarcastic. But, I could still be paying you a compliment.

You have to do a fair amount of research into an individual to really tell if they are being sarcastic or not. Spend a lot of time reading their other questions and such.

Are you too sarcastic? NOOOOOO!!

(you decide if that was sarcasm or not)

Sarcasm has it's uses. I don't mind sarcasm but think it silly when someone who it is not natural to it tries to use it and it comes off looking staged. If one is naturally sarcastic and it is part of their personality then I accept it like I accept everything else about a person. Usually sarcastic individuals tend to be very bright.

I think sometimes in written word it can be hard to see sarcasm all the time; but it is easier with some people than others.

I'm not a fan of sarcasm. A bit of dry humor not meant to hurt is different. over time sarcasm can be harmful. Seems as though it is used to cover up the real self.

meanings of sarcasm....
A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.

I think sometimes it is hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic. I don't know if you are too sarcastic, you might know, that is if you aren't to lost in it yourself.

If sarcasm is pulled off correctly then it's hilarious and well received in my book.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if someones being sarcastic online just because you don't get the tone of voice that would normally imply sarcasm but again, if it's pulled off correctly then it should be obvious.

Sarcasm has its uses, like all other literary techniques.
There is a place for it in some questions, while it can be offensive or just annoying in others.
You can usually tell if someone here in the R&S section is being sarcastic if the answer is a one-liner to a deep question, or they are consistently sarcastic with their answers.

I love sarcasm.

No, I do not think you are too sarcastic.

And it's hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic or they're just fundamentalist. Usually I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's sarcasm if it's something completely idiotic.

I love sarcasm, but I am can't find a good way to display it using only text. Maybe we need to designate some sort of punctuation to signify sarcastic remarks.

I like sarcasm; it conveys many thoughts without being heavy and nasty.
There is no real way for me to absolutely know when someone is being sarcastic, but there certainly are times when I hope that people are being sarcastic.
