Cars are taken off the lot all the time for test drives. I've taken one for a three day test drive before.

when it passes 600 miles it is then called a demo and will be discounted a little more

It's still a "New" car until a title is issued to the original buyer of the vehicle. Most dealers try to keep the miles down on demo rides, because new car buyers are hesitant to buy a new car with more than a few hundred miles on the clock. That's why demo cars with more miles are discounted to the original owner...

Actually, when it has 1 mile recorded on the odometer. But for selling purposes, just use your best judgement. Depending on how hard the car has been driven, it could be as little as 5,000 miles... Check out www.kbb.com or www.nada.com.

an automobile is no longer considered "new" when it has an owner. it depreciates 20 percent when it is driven off lot. I realize this is not the information you really wanted but it is the industry standard.

your car is "old" after three years, so if your car is a 2004, it is now "old" because 2007's are out now. And cars lose 40% of their value when they hit between 80,000 and 90,000 miles
