OK, maybe I'm still trapped in the mid-20th century, but here goes. I love drinking pop out of glass bottles, especially the thick 16 ounce deposit bottles I haven't been able to get for years. Of course, these days I'm drinking Diet Pepsi, but I'd still like to it in those bottles. I'm willing to drive at least 6 hours from Chicago to find it, but the local bottler had no idea of anyone still making them. Is there a bottler in the midwest that still sells them (heck, I might even move to Diet Coke if that were in thick glass bottles), or a place farther away that ships?

Go to Prince Edward Island, Canada. Most everything is sold in glass bottles. Something to do with controlling litter. Also, check out this site:

You can order all the old fashioned ones, even Pepsi=)

PS - aspartame is poison, you're better off drinking regular and working the calories off LOL (from experience).

I definitely would. I have hated the plastic bottles. They initially made everything taste like plastic, but even after they solved that, the drinks aren't as cold in them. I remember getting a coke out of a machine, and sometimes it would have tiny ice crystals in it - it was so delicious that way! The bottles used to have a deposit price when you bought them at the store in some states, and you would get it back if you brought it back to recycle. I think that's what they should do again, but our country seems to do more what's convenient rather than what's "right", and by our country, I mean the people, not the leaders only. The people cry in outrage if one minor inconvenience is talked about, even if it would be better for our lives down the road.

There is a dairy in this area that bottles milk in glass returnable bottles. Trouble is they are so expensive--even with the returns--that most customers prefer the convenience of the plastic bottles. The plastic bottles can be recycled, which means cutting them up and melting them down and re-using the material. Our automobiles probably damage the ozone far more than plastics and we have to have them. The good news is that today's cars burn cleaner and don't damage the environment as much as the cars of the '50's. Other good news, is that the ozone seems to be coming back. So the answer to your question is yes and no. Yes if the stores could make liquids available in glass bottles so it is convenient and economical. No if they couldn't. I do most of the grocery shopping. We do recycle.

I work for a company down here in san antonio, texas that produces a line in 12 oz. 'longneck' glass bottles featuring 7UP, RC Cola, Sunkist, A&W root beer and Big Red (San Antonio favorite). You'll probably need to contact your local bottler to see if they sell it...or at a nearby distributor. Check the 7UP/Dr Pepper bottler first. If they can't tell you then check a store like Whole Foods.

You can still buy the original coca cola in the original glass bottles in parts of Mexico. They bottle it locally. The stenciled label is in Spanish. Try to Google coca cola + mexico. You might find what you're looking for.

i'm not in chicago, but most stores should have soda in glass bottles.

coca cola/sprite is still available in bottle form, i think they are 9oz mini bottles, i forgot the size.

also mexican grocers should have Jarritos wich comes in 16oz bottles.

sodas like izzes (sparkling water flavored with fruit juice)
