Get a cat when you are good and ready, and can afford vet bills and such. Any cat is good. Consider the adoption option!!! It will save you money on shots at the vet, and some agencies carry purebreeds too.

If you are really ready to get a cat I cannot stress enough to go to your local shelter and adopt a cat that otherwise wouldn't have a chance. Both of my cats were adopted and are domestic shorthairs (mixed). The newest of the two had a very short time left at a shelter. Before that he was a homeless cat living on the streets. He is by far one of the sweetest and most loving animals I have ever known. It's almost as if they know you've saved their life and appreciate you that much more.
Of course only adopt when you are ready to assume the responsibility of feeding, vet visits, etc. A good percentage of pets return to shelters because their owners couldn't or didn't want to take care of their needs.

I think you should have an animal when you can afford one
Have space and a place for one
have transportation for it when it needs to go to the vet
have time every day to spend with it.If you are responsible and ready to take on an adult challenge because pets are in fact a great responsibility and sometimes they can become a burden if your in school have allot of friends and are irresponsible in the long run.You know yourself better then anyone else does ask your self am I ready to be a responsible pet owner. When you can answer this question honestly then and only then should you ever get another thing that has no choice but to depend upon you for its every thing including food; shelter and love day in and day out! Tabbies are nice but I like calicos the best

tabbys are awsome!!! I recently adopted my 6 month old male T.J from my local SPCA and he's the best!! he's a little crazy and wild right now though but he will eventually grow out of it sooner or later!! he's sooooooooo sweet and he constantly purrs and purrs!! I luvvvvvvvvvv him sooooooooooo much!!! he's a greyish brown tabby and he's sooooooooo smart. maybe to smart! LOL!! I also have a 2 year old pure black female cat named Blackie! she's soooooo beautiful!! I just adore all black cats, I think they're one of the greatest!! on a side note, I believe that you should adopt a cat/kitten from you'r local SPCA or shelter ASAP!! cats are WAY better than what people really give them credit for!!!! Good Luck with your new baby!

You should get a cat if you are ready to take care of it. Cats are very easy to take care of but I must warn you; you have to spend some money for vet, vaccinations and food. There are so many lovely cats whom need a home! go to your local shelther and they will give you more information about it, do not go to the pets store to buy one because it had been reported (all the time in the news) that they abuse animals and many of them have diseases.

Just an FYI, a tabby is a type of coat pattern. You can identify a tabby because they have a "M" on their forehead. So, contrary to popular belief, tabbies are not breeds.

I dont really know much about cat breeds, but I have a cat that is black and he is really pretty. I know that calicos (not sure if i spelled that right) can be nice looking too. As for when you should get it, I would wait until you can finacially care for it and also when you have the time to devote to it.

I love tabby cats! I had one my whole life, but then it died last year. It's name was actually "Tabby". Get one of those! They are so sweet! It lived for SO long - 18 years!

Go to your local humane society and "adopt" a cat. Get a cat that already likes people, and can be handled. Breed doesn't matter. Get a cat that likes you. Trust me, it's better that way.
