She is most definitely underweight. At 5'5" she should be around 140 pounds, give or take a little bit. I'm not sure what to say to do to help her as I have not been in a similar situation. All I can recommend is that you talk to a doctor to see if there's anything you can do to help her... if they think there is something wrong with her, then do her a favor and bring her in for professional help. She may not be happy with you when you do it, but she'll thank you later.
I wish you the best of luck, and I hope everything turns out ok for her.

That's kind of hard to know, if she is always in the bathroom after eating but not throwing up, she may have some other type of problem that she may not be sharing with her parents. If she is having a problem, you should tell her that she needs to talk to her parents if something is wrong. She may be nervous that something is really wrong and is just afraid of going to the doctor and just needs a push from you in the right direction. Hopefully that will work, but her parents should know if something is wrong.
On a side note I'm only 5'6" and for the longest time as a teenager, I couldn't get my weight over 100 lbs, I ate and stuff but I just had a super metabolism or something, but I wasn't always in the bathroom, I just find that kind of odd, but it could also be nothing, everyone is different, but it never hurts to see the doctor.

It sounds like it could be the beginning of anorexia. My niece is 5'2 and went from 101 lbs to 79lbs., not good. She has been struggling with anorexia for about 3 yrs now. The longer wait to see a doctor to see whats going on, the harder it will be to overcome.
My niece had to go to a special camp in Arizona. She missed the last 3 months of her senior year, her prom, and senior class trip. She did some internal damage to her body, may not ever be able to have children.
I would hope she at least get checked out by a doctor before any harm is done. She's lucky to have a concerned friend!

How do you know she is just using the bathroom? I'm pretty sure she is throwing up what she eats. And yes she is underweight. She should be around 105 to 115 lbs because she is only 13. Once she hits 18 and older she should weigh about 120 to 125 lbs.

she is fine, she just has an eating and restroom routine and has a high metabolism. when i was her age i weighed 74 lbs and was the same height. it's something that is passed on through her family. even if her parents are large right now or if she has a sib that is large as well. if she doesn't watch what she eats or exercise right now (junk food, sodas) by the time she becomes an adult, the weight factor will hit her all a once and when that happens it's almost impossible to get rid of it.

Some people can eat like pigs and still stay tiny. It may be that her metabolism is just that way.
On the other hand, if she's taking laxatives to stay skinny, that's not healthy.

well i guess the question is do you know for a FACT that she isn't getting sick, if not i would casually talk to her about going to the doctors, to comfort her tell her that you will go with her.
Just let her know that you value your friendship too much to lose her, after all friends are suppose to be there for one another even when we don't want them to be. there is nothing wrong with asking...
so good luck

Looks like she might have overactive thyroids. She needs medications. If she isn't bulimic or anorexic, then she needs to get herself checked--a bloodtest could help determine what she has.
