Well I know them all. I have had pets that were spayed/neutered and pets that weren't. Here are the ups and downs.

UPS OF NEUTERING MALE DOGS
-Male dogs are less territorial and aggressive after being neutered
-Male dogs are less likely to get cancer than un-neutered males
-Male dogs will live longer after being neutered
DOWNS OF NEUTERING MALE DOGS
-Male dogs will be clumsy for a few weeks after being neutered
-Male dogs will not want to go anywhere with you after neutering
-Male dogs will not move off the couch or anywhere for a few days
UPS OF SPAYING FEMALE DOGS
-Female dogs will not go into heat (heat increases cancer)
-Female dogs are less likely to get cancer
-Female dogs will live longer
DOWNS OF SPAYING FEMALE DOGS
-Female dogs will be clumsy for a few weeks after being neutered
-Female dogs will not want to go anywhere with you after neutering
-Female dogs will not move off the couch or anywhere for a few days

This was probably just your situation with your animals.. My female was nothing like the downs you described. Only right after her surgery..

Altered dogs have about a 30% higher chance of bone cancer, one of the most prevelant cancers in dogs. So, yes, they will have a lower incidence of testiculer and ovarian cancer, but also a much higher chance of bone cancer. Not neccessarily a good trade off, in my opinion.

Dogs neutered young will get leggy and lack body.

Females spayed young often have spay incontinance problems, a common reason why dogs are given up to a shelter.

Neutered dogs have less muscle mass and tend to have more injuries because of this, especially dogs that are used in the field or performance sports.

BTW - female dogs are not neutered, they are spayed. Male dogs often do NOT get less aggressive and territorial after neutering. If your dogs are clumsy and don't want to go with you anywhere for a few weeks after S/N, you need to find a better Vet.

You better check some of your facts - I've never had a dog who was clumsy for a few days never mind weeks. And I doubt you'll find a dog who won't want to go anywhere with you after neutering unless they didn't want to go with you before.
