I'm not trying to compare but my daughter is almost 2 and she hasn't uttered a single comprehensible word yet. Just a lot of baby talk. She's healthy, happy, understands what we're saying to her very well and she can comunicate her needs perfectly. Her doctor says it's ok for bilingual baby not to talk yet but I'm wondering about other bilingual kids.

My mom had me at the doctors almost every week asking him if my was ever going to talk??? She wanted me to get him a cat scan, she was just all over the place. But my son is now 3 turning 4 next week and he just started talking all at once. Not clearly, I seem to be the only one that understands him after i make him repeat himself like 3 or 4 times. But he doesn't speak Spanish. He only says "cama" "mas" and that's all his Spanish, his English is fine. He understands everything, he can translate. Don't worry some kids just take longer, but if your doctor like my doctor told you every things OK, and it will happened, he's is the doctor so stop worrying, before you know it you'll be longing for those nice silent days, the ones that didn't start and end with "WHY"...enjoy your child before it can talk back to you.......

Ours was probably a little later starting than other children, and sentences seemed to take a bit longer to get going, but once he did, he never looked back. Mind you, he seemed to be a bit late in everything, but then it all came in a rush so he caught up very quickly.

As to bi-lingual, we didn't mix the languages up. One spoke one, the other the other. He has actually grown up truly bi-lingual, in that he can switch from one to the other, sometimes in mid-sentence, if he wants to.

There were a couple of minor problems though, which were quite funny.

He went through a stage of thinking that all women spoke German, and all men English. Once he cleared that up, he thought that anyone at the end of a plane journey spoke German. That confused people in Spain!!

It is well worth sticking with though, it gives your child a tremendous advantage later on, and means they can properly mix with both families.

my son is later but my daughter can speaks in sentences in our language before 2. so it really depends.

one advice would be if you want them not to confuse, try using just one language in a conversation so they are not mixed up.
