The translation will show up as "the winning".
However, there is a reason why local people will rarely translate the meaning of the place.
Of course Kahului is the capital of Maui County, and this is all of the island. The name came from Ka Ha Lui which used to mean the "scented tree". This was the native sandalwood tree which doesn't exist on the island anymore.
The island was completely raped of the tree about 200 years ago when the sandalwood scent became as valuable as gold. One story says that the king traded every seedling and tree on the island for one ship that is rotting in Lahaina Bay at this moment. The ship never sailed out of the bay. I think is was a deal with one of the original Hoxworth's of the H&H Shipping company.
Anyway the original Maui Sandalwood is gone so most people on the islands would just prefer the translation of "the winning".

There is no real translation for this word. It is, though, the airport on Maui(OGG). It's on the Northern end of a land bridge between Haleakala and the West Maui Mountain Range.

Kahului most commonly refers to the largest town on Maui, and the asssociated bay, harbor, and airport. It's literal meaning is probably "the winning".
