They all came here ILLEGALLY, on dirty boats and got citizenship promptly It's well described in history books and you can read it on the INS website.
Legal immigration started out in yearly 20th century. Before that every immigrant that showed up was taken in. No papers, nothing was required before 1790.

First off, Native Americans didn't have a National Government to institute an immigration policy so grow up. Secondly America was founded on LEGAL immigration. Thirdly this is the 21 century, we no longer need the massive numbers of unskilled immigrants that we once did, we as a Nation have the Right and Obligation to control who gets into this country for any reason.

You're right...

I guess it's just political bull.

Think about this....

Before, Immigrants could become citizens no matter what, even without having to be a professional, and without being educated.

I don't know why some of these people say that they were LEGAL immigrants..

WTF are they talking about?? do they not know their history??

There WAS no such thing as legal or illegal immigrant.. Anyone could come to the US...

Now, there isn't really a way for Latin Americans to come here legally like Europeans did 50-100 yrs ago...

When my ancestors came to America, there was no such thing as welfare, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, HUD, free health care, ESL in schools, affirmative action, etc. This s**t has to stop somewhere, and kudos for President Bush for taking a stand on this issue which, without resolve, would end up draining America of every cent in the end. When my ancestors came to this country, they were coming to make a better life for their families, not to take advantage of free money and government programs. Granted, they was not differentiation between "legal" and "illegal" immigration, but their hearts were in the right place.

It's rather simple actually. With wide open borders we have No clue who might be entering our country. Be it a Terriost, Murderer, Child Molestor Ect. There is No checks and balances to keep the Bad guys Out. Honest hard working people shouldn't mind the inconvenience of having to enter Legally in order to keep the Bad elements out of America.

Too many people here already we can't take care of now. It simply cannot be an open door policy.

Is it fair that my Irish brother-in-law and ALL SEVEN of his siblings got greencards with the blink of an eye while MEXICANS can't...NO!!!

But an Illegal Irish needs to be deported and apply for citizenship like everyone else.

its no loner 1896, its a different world from Ellis Island.

Because, when our ancestors came to America, they came here to contribute and make a better life for them selves, they came to be Americans. The current Mexican problem consists of people that do not really want to be Americans, but rather just work in the United states, take advantage of our resources, use our benefits, then refuse to assimilate into our culture. They would rather us bend over backwards to take care of them.

There are economic ramifications to having an open door immigration policy. There are not enough resources to accomodate an uncontrolled influx of people. Our social services would collapse overnight. That's why immigration needs to be controlled and planned in-line with growth.

you MUST be kidding!?

no one wants to "shut down" the borders. there is a LEGAL system in place, let's try to use it. letting ILLEGALS cross the border wherever they can is irresponsible in this modern era.

modern day immigrants ARE given the SAME respect, rights, and privileges as my LEGAL ancestors were.

"...shutting the borders..."
love your rhetoric
