The statement that only people have free will is Biblically incorrect. God endowed angels with volition also. Nevertheless, it was God’s decree which determines all the intentions and actions of creatures (material or immaterial). Satan fell because God determined that Satan would freely want to fall.

Who said ONLY humans have free will? Angels are created beings also. Humans were created "a little lower than the angels." So says the scriptures. They have free will. They could choose their actions, otherwise Satan would have not rebelled and attempted to overthrow the throne of God....which for some reason he did not know you cannot win.

Satan got the idea that he was better than God and wanted to be worshipped. It was pride that caused him to defy God.
