When you have a net you shouldn't cast it, its impossible. You have to do it by hand.

Cast nets are used mostly to catch baitfish. You could buy a spinning dish that helps you drop the net correctly. It's definitely an art form to drop it out so it sinks quickly to the bottom. You have to put a part of the net over your shoulder, then twist your hips for it to spin out correctly. Takes a lot of practice. The best bet would be to buy a spinning dish. You have to be careful, however, with a cast net you pick up gamefish recently spawned and you could get fined if you keep them.

Mike, it is called casting a net!
anyways you make sure that the net isnt twisted and hangs free.. start with by holding the top of the net in one hand and one side of the net on the bottom again making sure none of it is twisted and twist you waist as far as you can in one motion swing your hips and arms in one motion and throw cast the net...

they are legal only for taking bait fish and most states have a size limit 7ft,8ft, ect. spin dish is easiest to use.
