You're not too familiar with God's arithmetic, are you?

You might as well have asked about the 14 tribes of Israel. Yep, count'em Jacob had 12 sons, then he adopted his son Joseph's two sons. That makes 14 tribes of Israel, but whenever they're listed in the Bible, there's always 12. Two are always missing for one reason or another. When they're listed to show how many from each tribe went to war, Levi is missing and Joseph counts for Ephraim & Manassah. In Revelation Dan is missing because his tribe is represnted by an eagle, and so is the church, so because he represents the church, he's not counted as being sealed prior to the trumpets.

Same thing with the disciples. In Acts 1:26 "they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles." KJV

After Judas comitted suicide, Matthias was selected to bring the number back to 12.

The truth is revealed in Matthew 19:28. Look at the key word "follow". Ask yourself was Judas a follower of Jesus? If he was a true follower he would not have betrayed Jesus.

Judas was replaced by Matthias.
Acts 1: 20-26 ""For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms, " 'May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,' and, " 'May another take his place of leadership.' Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection."
So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs." Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles."

The thing you have to remember is that Judas was saved Jesus also says that all of his disciples will live forever with him I just read it the other day and also the Bible says that the devil put it in the heart of Judas and as you know even if you are saved the devil looks at you as a target and will put things in your mind to tempt you what the devil put in Judas mind it was to full fill the scripture. You can find it in the book of John.

By the time Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, Judas had been replaced by Matthias. Once again, there were twelve.

Because the Bible is written in parables and twelve represents the church like the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 gates of the New Jerusalem and the 144,000 that will go to heaven (or 12x12x1000).

Are you asking if Judas betrayed Jesus, why is he still considered a disciple?

Perhaps it was all part of God's plan to have Judas betray Jesus so he would get crucified and die for the sins of man.

Perhaps the twelve include Mary Magdeline who many believe was Jesus' most important disciple.

The original were 12 .... judas could have changed his situation. Also a new 12th was named after Judas committed suicide. Hmmm i cant remember his name... let me look....

Ohhh matthias was choosen to replace Judas. I really think that 12 is a holy number so they kept it at that. 11 isnt a holy number. 12 is comprised of 3's so it makes things complete.
