My 3 month old beagle is sleeping and shaking. I'm a little concerned about the shakes. They are like short spasms, it kind of looks like what happens when you get really cold in the winter and your body shakes really quickly, but he keeps doing it, everytime time he breaths in. Is this normal?

When animals are deeply in sleep they sometimes shake or twitch, it means they are dreaming. Sometimes you'll notice their eyes are moving too. This is no cause for alarm - its just the REM sleep mode they're inn. Now the other problem of being cold in the winter, what I would do is buy the dog a sweater or a nice heated doggie bed. This may take care of the winter shakes from the coldness..

Hello!

I have a Beagle as well. Mine shakes like that when he sleeps too! He is probably dreaming, but to calm your mind you should check with a vet.

He also shakes like that when he's super excited, ex. when he thinks we'll give him people food. I bought my Beagle a fluffy bed that is made of warm fleece so he could keep warm.

He has his little weird traits as well, like when he's nipping at his fur, he almost hyperventilates himself because he forgets to breath normally. I took him to the vet because of this, and turns out its pretty normal. Its because he is taking in too much air and his body is trying to compensate.

I've known puppies (including a beagle puppy) who would shake and get cold easily. In fact, sometimes that beagle will cuddle up to someone and insist on being coverred!

Try putting something like a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel beside your puppy and see if that helps.

Good luck!

Yes he could be cold try a hot pad on low heat under several blankets if that dosen't work fairly quickly he may be hopoglicemec wich is anouther work for not absorbing the food(sugar) he's getting. Also check for dehydration (pale gums and tounge) also a vet issue I hope he's ok .. good luck.

My chihuahua's do this, it's normal if they are cold, or scared for them to shake like they are cold. But to be sure, take him to the vet to make sure

Instead of taking him to the Vet call them first and save some money.

Especially if you got him from a pet store you need to have it checked out by a vet. Either he's dreaming, or he's sick.
