Eh. I don't think there's necessarily etiquette saying you can't but I think it would show poor taste.
Wedding attire is usually subdued and classy. Red is not a subdued color. But then where do you stop -- is orange too much also?
I personally wouldn't do it and I still remember the one time, 8 years ago, when someone wore one to a wedding and it's not a positive memory.

Depends on the type of wedding. In many Asian and Hispanic cultures, red is the color of celebration and is often seen at weddings. In old-fashioned white/European culture, a red dress as something provocative and sexual. But it depends far more on the cut and style of the dress than on the actual shade.
Rule of thumb: don't outshine the bride. If it's in a church, don't wear anything you would usually consider too sexy. If you're really in doubt, show the dress to the bride and ask her opinion.

The only hard and fast rule I know about dressing for a wedding is no one wears white except the bride.

today's fashions have evolved so that pretty much any color can be worn to a wedding...except white, which would be in poor taste as would compete with bride. Go for the red..and have a ball. Good luck

What kind of red? A nice maroon, then maybe. But overall this is the bride (and grooms) day, do not take attention away from them. It is just low class to act in such a way that people will be paying attention to you on their day.

I don't see why not... the usual stuff applies - don't outshine the bride (or anyone in the wedding party, for that matter), don't wear anything that will shock the grannys, be classy, etc.

The kindest rule of wedding attire is don't outshine the bride. Put the dress on - look at yourself in the mirror. If you would outshine the bride please choose a different dress.

I agree with everyone that says as long as you aren't trying to outdue the bride and draw attention away from her, then your dress should be fine.
