I had my first baby 10 months ago via c-section and even though I take care of my incision area, it's still sore and itchy. The scar actually looked uglier compared to the early months, now it's raised and dark. I'm wondering if the scar will ever stop hurting and will it lighten over time? I'm sometimes worried about it and asked my doctor, but he claimed that it's normal. I suppose that it has to do with different tissue and rate of healing in different people. I just want reassurance and get a feedback from other women in similar situations. Thanks.

Yep, that's normal! Try some Mederma (apply 4-5x per day) to help with the healing. It should soften, lighten, and smooth out after 6-8 weeks.

My own c-section scar was bright red and hideous for almost a year, but now (3yrs later) is barely noticeable. I credit the mederma a LOT for that, as I have another scar on my stomach that hasn't healed nearly as well, and it's 6 years old.

Hmmm... I've had 4 c-sections, including one 5 months ago. None of them are at all like you describe. They are visible, but not particularly raised or dark. No pain whatsover anymore - and it has been a while since there was any pain. And the itching with my last one stopped several weeks ago. The only thing ongoing that I have found is that there is a small area above the incisions where it is like I have no feeling. I guess it is some kind of nerve damage, and it doesn't really bother me at all.

Perhaps it is as your doctor says and different people heal at different rates and different ways. But your experience is definitely different than mine. I'd get a second opinion from a doctor.

Good luck!

I had a c-section 12 years ago and mine quit itching about 2-3 years ago. That goes along with any REAL BAD scar. As the years go by tit will get lighter and lighter for you. Some people just heal faster than others and I guess I was one of those lucky ones! I as well had a reversal in Nov. 05 and they went back through that scar and I have to say I started the itching AGAIN! It THANK GOD my scar did NOT take for ever to go back to the same color after 12 years. Hang in there it DOES get better!

C Section Scar Itching

i had a c-section too almost 5 years ago. it took a while for the itchiness to go away and over time, it has lightened. i also have numbness at the incision that still hasn't gone away. these issues are pretty standard and healing times are different for everyone. if your doctor says not to worry, i wouldn't. if the pain becomes unbearable and the scar starts to look abnormal, you should check again with your doctor.

The itching is most likely due to the area getting more blood flow and the nerves healing. It takes a long time to lighten depending upon your skin. Maybe several years. Seems mine took nearly 3-5 years before the redness/pink went away.

ive had 4 c-sections & i completely understand what you are going through right now.

each person is different with how they heal & indeed we can also heal differenty with each operation or at different ages...

my 1st felt just fine, but was very red. my second took longer to heal but looked fantastic - even i couldnt see it was there. my 3rd puckered in at one side & even 4 years later was still numb. my 4th was a year ago - it looks ok, but is numb & when touched it feels tingly/painful it also itches & get sore in the bath...

im sure you have nothing to worry about at all. bio-oil rubbed into scar tissue can help heal it & make it look better.

good luck

I've had 3 sections, and have never had that icthing, raised symtom your talking about. It has been sore, and smelly, and irritated after 10 months, and I put triple antibiotic ointment on it, and let it air out in front of the fan or something, but I'd get a another Dr.'s opionion if I were you. No one should have to live with pain.
