24 definitely isnt that old you might feel a tiny bit out of place at basic training and tech school because the majority of people there are 18-21 but its not that much of a difference. When I went I was 19 and alot of the girls I was with had kids and werent that immature so I felt a bit young. And then when I got back to my duty base I was one of the youngest airmen, I'd say half were college age and half were over 40.
As for Air Force or Navy. I would recommend going active Navy if you want to go Active. They go to really cool places my bro is in the Navy. But Air Force isnt that bad either Ive been in the Air National Guard for 2 yrs but Im most likely getting deployed to the middle east next year. I'd definitely say go Active so you can see the world and choose where you want to go and you can still go to college on Active duty. I chose to go Guard and we get deployed more which I didnt know before enlisting.
But most of all I'd say go to chat sites and talk to people who REALLY know whats up aka fellow airmen/seamen. Some recruiters are really slimy and will tell you anything to get you to sign up.
Best Of Luck!

No, you are not too old. Before you make a decision, try to weigh some options and maybe in what field of work you would like to be in. Both services have excellent training in the medical and dental field. In the navy, you may have to be deployed in a ship. The air force has some really nice duty stations. So, talk t o a recruiter about what you really want to do. If they say that they are not offering certain jobs that you are interested in, leave. They are just filling quotas. Remember, you are joining the service to do what you want to do.

As I can see from all the previous answers you already know you aren't too old to join. Speaking from my own experience having joined the active duty ARMY @ 21, you are in for the time of your life. I did six years and had the time of my life to include serving in the Gulf in 1990-1991.
You will meet some of your best friends and have some of the most memorable times in your life. Even if you don't think the things you learn in the service are important you will call back on that time in your life for strength and insight the rest of your life.
My best advice is to choose your MOS carefully and talk to someone in that field if possible. Once you have a field it can be hard to get out of it if your not a good fit. I was a helicopter mechanic which had it's pluses but, I really wanted to be a Nurse. I got out to follow that passion and my only regret is getting out. Wish I could have been a medic or Army Nurse.
God Bless!

A lot of people on here liking to quote a bunch of things they read, and dont know crap about.
At 24, you are eligible to enlist in any branch. The question you should be asking is whether you are in any condition to enlist. A lot of todays 24 year olds are 50 pounds overweight, and have never ran further than the refrigerator. So, do yourself and the Armed Forces a favor, dont join if you arent ready. No one wlse wants to carry your weight through training.
Remember, its not the years, it's the miles.

By federal law, the maximum age to enlist in the military is age 35. This is because an enlisted person must be able to have 20 years of service, to be retirement eligible by the maximum retirement age of 55.
Regardless of federal law, the military services are allowed to impose more strict standards -- and they have, for active duty enlistments. The maximum age for non-prior service enlistments for active duty, for each of the services are:
Army - 34
Air Force - 27
Navy - 34
Marines - 28
Coast Guard - 27
The maximum age for enlistment in the Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserves is age 35. The maximum age for enlistment in the Army and Navy Reserves is age 39. The maximum enlistment age for the Air and Army National Guard is age 35, although this can sometimes be waived, depending on individual state requirements.
Go for it if this is what you want! Go see the world and experience all you can! Good luck!

No. 24 is well within enlistment age. Just know there are also height/weight standards and physical requirements. Talk to the recruiters, they can tell you all about it. I recommend joining the Marine Corps.

No! As a matter of fact, when the US had the military draft, the draft age was 22 years old.
You might find it awkward once you're in a permanent duty station , or aboard ship to be taking orders from guys younger than you, who out rank you. You will really feel uncomfortable when your peers refer to you as pappy.
Ages range in the military. You can be working or training with someone who is 18 years old, or someone who is 45 years old. So don't think for a second that you won't fit in because of age.

No, my son was 28 & passed Army Ranger school as Officer.
Good luck! Remember most 18-20s will out run you. You do not have to finish first, you just have to finish in set time.
