You can go to your GP if you feel you are or might be depressed and get counselling free. There are also some counselling agencies that are free, or that operate a sliding scale, i.e. you pay a lower rate if you are on a low income. Your council should have a list of counselling agencies in your area.

As Jude said, go to your GP - but you may have to fight for counselling instead of being fobbed off with drugs.

In the meantime, start a diary or write it down. At least that way some of it is out of your head.

I wouldn't recommend religous organisations unless you are already a practising member. Some of the weirder ones can cause more problems than they solve. However, if you are, for example, a practising Christian, then your local pastor can help to put you in touch with people who can help.

Alternative therapists can also be good listeners too. I find having a massage not only helps the physical symptoms but lets you talk things through. However it is not cheap at up to £30 a half-hour.

Go to your local GP. They can refer you on to a counsellor or a clinical Psychologist (although there will be a waiting list). In the meantime, try the MIND website www.mind.org.uk. All the best.
