Reducing the number of programs that automatically start with Windows will shorten the start-up/boot time.
To stop these programs: click Start, Run. Type in ‘msconfig’ (without the quotes) and click OK. Click the Startup tab.
You will see a list of programs. Many of the names are difficult to decipher. You can find a list of entries and their explanations at:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
Uncheck the boxes for the programs you do not need. Click Apply and then click OK. Be careful not to eliminate needed programs.

.
To start/or remove a program from each time you start Windows
Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.
On the Start Menu tab, click Classic Start menu, and then click the button Customize. This changes the style of the Start menu.
In the Start Menu frame, click the button Advanced.
Scroll down the tree and find your user Programs folder > inside that find the Start Up Folder
...Open the Start Up Folder and Delete the shortcut of the program you do NOT want to start at start up of your computer.
....To ADD a program to the start up folder find the shortcut to the program you want to start each time you start Windows, and drag it to the Startup folder located in the Programs folder.

Check your Startup Folder in the START button under Programs. If that doesnt work go into each offending program and change the preferences.
