I don't think anyone should tell you what color or what theme. You should determine that yourself. Look around you living space, do you have collectibles? A favorite piece of pottery, a sweater that you just love the color? What colors do you like? You can find inspiration in your own belongs. for example if you love peppers, you could paint your walls a color to accent a pepper theme. You could stencil, or purchase inexpensive peppers themed plates, posters etc... to hang on your walls. You could find pepper decorations on all kinds of items and use them to decorate your kitchen. I have a bright red kitchen that I LOVE and everyone else does too. It's fun and bold. I don't really like themes, they're a little too hokey. Just stick to cool stuff that goes with your color, whatever you choose.

It really depends on your taste.
I really like the idea of a diner motif.
Black and white tile on the floor, White walls, Black Cabinets with silver handles, White subway tile on the back splash, with lots of red accents. Chrome appliances (toaster, etc...) You can also find the diner style booth or table with silver trim on the edge and reupholster it in black leather. Good luck

The cottage / seaside retreat look is very in - shabby chic and Tuscan are out. Use pale neutrals that blend together nicely - i.e. light beige yellow, whites and very light blues. Little accents go a long way in this look.

I've always wanted to have all of my cupboard, counters and appliances white and then have a periwinkle or teal wall for a dramatic splash of color. I've seen it done before and it looks really nice.
