Instead of numbering the tables at the reception (cause you know nobdy likes to sit at the highest numbered table!), we are getting postcards from cities that have some significance to our relationship, we're writing a little something on the back, then mailing the postcard to us from that city!! This way, our guests can find which city they are sitting at and look at the postcard and read why that city was special for us.
For example, we went to St. Augustine over the weekend, bought a postcard from there and mailed it to our apt. That will serve as one of our table names!
Another idea I had was rather than having a guest book, we're having a wish basket! I cut up little pieces of paper and put a cute little bow on it, then put all of the papers in a basket for guests to write down words of advice, wishes, etc. I am also putting a camera next to the basket so I (an attendant) can get a picture of each couple as they come into the reception area. When I get all of that together, I am going to put it on a scrapbook!!
It's better than having people sign a boring old guest book!

my wedding is still talked about today. I'm glad everyone had such a fun time too. Here are some of the things we did:
during the ceremony, we lit candle in memory of the grandparents no longer with us, at the reception we did the bridal party dance. We danced to "That's what friends are for" but, we made a huge circle with the guys in the middle and the girls around the edge. I measured out how long the song was and divided it between the # of people in our wedding party. So every say 38 seconds, we would spin and change partners- it was a lot of fun and we got to dance with everybody. Then from there, the DJ asked everyone in the bridal party to go get someone in the audience and dance. It got lots of people up and dancing. During the mother/son, father/daughter dance we had a big screen TV in the background that showed pictures of us growing up(not a dry eye in the place). Oh yeah, and I wanted a picture of the groomsmen with their pants around their ankles and their boxers showing with me peeking over their shoulders. It was so funny, cars were honking their horns, it's a great picture that even our photographer uses in her portfolio. But, someone was dropping their pants every ten seconds--IT WAS A WILD RECEPTION. My Dad went home with no pants and one shoe--now that's a wedding for the story books folks.

My husband and I both come from Scottish descent so we Incorporated some Celtic touches like knot work on the invites. He also gave me a his clan sash instead of doing the candle thing. So if either of you have ties to some ethnic group look in to their traditions. As for music we did something a bit different. I walked to bagpipes and Hubby the movie buff walked to the emperors theme from Star Wars. Then we walked out to the theme for raiders of the lost ark. The guests loved it.

Some fun ideas that I got for my wedding was from a wedding planner called Preston Bailey. Look up his website and you can even go to the library and check out his book like I did.

I'm getting married in October. We chose a 1940's Hollywood Glamour theme. Our centerpieces are eiffel tower (tall) vases with white ostrich feather plumes in them (found the idea on ebay), I made my own invitations (bought the kit at Staples and saved a TON-everyone LOVED them), and instead of table numbers, we are using black and white photos of 1940s celebs. Our ceremony music is traditional Canon in D (string version). Use your imagination and have fun planning it-that's most important.

We did a grandparents table. Our deceased grandparents we put pictures up front. (see my 360 page to see it - in my photo album)
Instead of a guest book we printed out little cards and at our reception hall we put out the cards and had our guests fill out memories or advice or quotes or anything on the cards. It was a great idea, and then we put them all in photo albums.
My mother did all of my flowers (as you can see on my page they are beautiful!!)
For the rehearsal dinner instead of a full-out meal we just ate pizza and yes you are reading this correctly but it gave us a chance to get up and walk around and eat and talk with our friends and family.
Good luck and Congrats!!

one of the coolest thing's i've seen done was the bride and groom picking out a specific song for each member of the bridal party to walk down the aisle to. it was a special song that reminded them of the particular person walking down the aisle or had a special meaning. it was really cool and also allowed their personalities to shine through.

At my wedding instead of throwing rice(which is illegal in some states) we bought some netting, and cut it into little squares and used bird seed to fill them up, then used a small ribbon to match my colors to tie them up in a bow and put them in a little basket next to the guest book, so as everyone was going out the door they could grab a few to toss as we were leaving on our honeymoon. (You open them up of course, you don't throw the whole thing.)
I also got a lady in my town to bake my cake at her home...It was 3 layers with columns and when it was brought out to the house, the florist put flowers on each layer with swags of pearls. The flowers matched my bouquet.....it was very nice. It was the prettiest cake I have ever seen.
Good Luck!

I just got married in July. It was tropical themed, and outdoors. Everyone was given a lei to wear.
Decorations: My centerpieces were fish bowls with colored gems in the bottom and gold fish in them. I put sand under them, with sea shells around. Tropical blue colored table cloths. We rented white tents and all white chairs. I found paper lanterns in my colors at a local discount party store, I put them in the trees. We hung twinkle lights in the trees and bushes. I had tikki torches all over, and I even found some mini tikki torches and put them on the buffet tables. I recently lost an uncle, so we put up wedding pics from his wedding on our guest book table.
Music: We rented a dance floor and a PA system and hooked an i-pod up to it. (way cheaper than a DJ, plus I got to put all my favorite songs on it)
Food: My cake was made of little cupcakes, with a traditional cake top. Everyone loved it. For dinner we had a pig roast and a bunch of different salads. Coolers of pop, beer, and wine coolers. I had a chocolate fountain, with marshmallows, bananas, and strawberries.
Activities: We put up a volleyball net, horse shoe pit and for the little kids I found beach balls in my colors and just left them out on the grass everywhere.
Invitations and thank you notes: My mom made my invitations. We ordered them from costco.com. They were my colors and we printed them on our own computer with the program costco provides. They turned out great and saved a lot of money. My thank you notes, I put a wallet size wedding photo in them. We found a stamp that you melt wax and press it in, (like in the old days) that was an R for our last name. We used it to seal all the envelopes.
Well good luck with your planning! In the end you'll come up with your own unique ideas.
