My dog just caught a squirell between our many trees in our backyard. Do I need to be concerned, or should I just let the dog play with the squirl corps.

Your terrier should be fine, but I wouldn't allow him to play with it..squirrels Carry fleas and parasites, so just take it away and dispose of the carcass..You might get him a wormer from your vet's, just to make certain he didn't get any worms...the new spot-on-skin treatment, REVOLUTION will do the trick..Just $14 for your peace of mind..gets rid of parasites, internally and externally.

Your dog should be fine. You might want to dispose of the corpse when you can, you don't want your dog playing with it as it is decomposing. If you notice your dog acting weird or strange in the next few days then take her to vet, but otherwise she will be fine.

My Jack Russell Terrier has an affinity for eating things she isn't supposed to. If I were you I would take her to the vet just to make sure it hasnt affected her in any way.

Now explain why you would take it to the vet. Is it showing any adverse symptoms? If so then yes, maybe. But dogs have been eating squirrels forever.

I'd make sure your dog is up to date on all her shots and I'd call the vet to see if there are any additional vaccinations he'd recommend. Squirrells can carry diseases and parasites that your dog may not have immunity to. Call your vet and see what he/she says.

If I took my cat to the vet everytime it caught a squirrel I would live there. Animals catch other animals - it's what they do. Don't waste your money on a vet.

Whether he's symptomatic or not, to be on the safe side, we suggest that you take him to the vet and have him checked out. ((He may have small bites, and/or fleas or ticks from the squirrel.))

If you still have bits of the squirrel take it with you (especially the head and brain). The vet may be able to test it for rabies and other parasites.

I'd throw the squirell away, but as long as your dog is up to date on it's rabies shot he/she will be okay.

Don't worry, as long as the squirrel wasn't already dead (poisoned or diseased). Good for your dog. It's exactly what Jack Russel's are bred for. My friend's Jack catches birds. You should be proud of your puppy.
