Possibly he is a very far sighted dog and he is doing it just in case.
Of course it is easier to eat spiders, as they are more likely to be within reach of a dog than flies are, and they cannot easily fly away when he tries to get them. So it may just be that he eats the spiders because he can't eat flies.
My dog never ate them. He just used to roll them around his mouth until they were all gummed up with spit, then deposit them back on the floor. Be grateful.

I remember my old dog used to eat snails. I still get chills thinking about that horrible crunch it'd make! He also used to have a penchant for horse crap. Be happy your dog only eats spiders I say!

most dogs do, its a normal thing, some cats eat spiders too, they like to catch them, and pull them apart, and then eat them, its like a game to them, try and catch them, as they are not sure what the tiny bug is,

Mine does that...extra protein, it's not going to do any harm, just watch them with flying beasties, a wasp sting in the mouth or throat can kill.

dogs try to chase after and eat everything that's smaller then them, I have a chihuahua who eats bugs and another who tries to catch and eat frogs. My only guess is that they see them moving and they either try to play with them or try to kill them and because they are so small they end up eating them
