If you do not have an operating system, then you can't buy the upgrade one. Good luck!

You don't want to get an upgrade since you have no OS. You will need a full version of Windows XP. Purchase the one that said Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2. It is the full operating system.

The "upgrade" requires an MIcrosoft operating system of at least Windows 98 already installed on your PC. Which means either buy the "Full Home Version" or if you know someone with a Windows 98 or 98SE or ME version, install it just up to the point where you get to the desktop the first time. Then install the Win XP Home Upgrade. Do not do any other updates until you have installed Win XP Home Upgrade. (would be a waste of time)

An upgrade is not what you are looking for. You will only be able to install a WindowsXP upgrade if you install it over the top of an existing Windows OS.

Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 should be what you are aiming for.

Also, do not be afraid to experiment with Ubuntu Linux Desktop if you are interested. You can download and burn a "live" cd that allows Ubuntu Linux Desktop to be run without installing, just for fun. I recommend this simply because it is free (as in beer) and as long as you were asking...

=)

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition plus the Upgrade with Service Pack 2
unless you are using it for work then go with the XP pro the service pack is something you need.

the service pack was added after they came out with the xp edition and people that had it had to install the service pack
It offers enhancements and better protection against viruses, hackers, and worms.

With features like Windows Firewall, Pop-up Blocker for Internet Explorer, and Windows Security Center, you can be confident that your computer has the right tools to stay more secure and up to date.

Gett the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 by Microsoft since it is the actually os. As you said yourself, you have no OS meaning it is unecessary to buy the first pack mentioned.

what? your computer should come with one when you purchase one, but anyways, i would recommend you get windows XP home edition with service pack too, or windows XP professional with service pack too, there is just a little bit of difference (very little), if you want to know the difference, go to http://www.microsoft.com
and read the FAQ section.

good luck.

Go with the Home edition, not the upgrade.

Of course you need the full version. It costs about twice as much as the upgrade. Currently in my area the upgrade costs around $99.00 and the full version costs around $197.00. Don't buy the upgrade, buy the full version.
